Climate Adaptation
Asia and the Pacific is among the most climate-vulnerable regions in the world. Without urgent action, the economic impact of climate change here is projected to double the global average by 2050.
ADB has committed $34 billion for climate adaptation financing by 2030, helping countries strengthen resilience in food, water, health, and livelihoods.
Adaptation investments are designed to protect economies and communities and ensure women and vulnerable groups are not disproportionately affected.

Energy Transition
The region accounts for over 50% of global emissions, while more than 350 million people lack access to reliable electricity.
ADB is spearheading the Energy Transition Mechanism (ETM) to retire coal plants early, expand renewable energy, and deliver clean, affordable power.
The focus is on an energy transition that safeguards economic growth and ensures equitable access for all.

Climate Financing
Meeting climate goals requires trillions in annual investment worldwide, and Asia and the Pacific faces a significant shortfall.
ADB has pledged $100 billion for climate action between 2019 and 2030, positioning itself as “Asia and the Pacific’s Climate Bank.”
By leveraging public and private finance, ADB is accelerating clean energy, adaptation, and sustainable infrastructure investments.

Just Transition
The low-carbon transition, while essential, risks socioeconomic disruption for industries, workers, and communities.
ADB is committed to mainstreaming just transition principles across its operations to ensure no one is left behind.
Policies focus on minimizing negative impacts on vulnerable groups and creating opportunities for inclusive growth.
